I’ve recorded my 9th One Take Wonder, and another one which I am almost entirely pleased with. The song is ‘Wonderful Tonight’ and is one of my favourite Eric Clapton songs.

The history of the song itself is interesting. It was written to Patty Boyd, George Harrisons former wife (who had cheated on George with Eric after meeting whilst Eric recorded the guitar solo for ‘While my guitar gently weeps’ by the Beatles, and the love triangle resluted in the song ‘Layla’… meanwhile). As rumor stands, he wrote the first verse whilst waiting for her to finally finish getting ready for a party – so it wasn’t quite as romantic as the song appears, as much as it was a ‘Yes dear, your look wonderful, now lets go’

Enjoy

Another OneTakeWonder for May 13th – and one of the better ones so far.

The song is Moondance, by Van Morrison – complete with improv. solo, fingerpicked guitars (emulating a double bass with my thumb) and the slightly improvvy end. Enjoy

This is my 5th one track wonder – ‘39 By Queen (Brian May). Copied below is my original facebook post:

‘39 by Queen.

The song itself is quite unique. Its very much a folk song, in the stead of some 70s folk artists who shan’t be named – but I’m certain you could figure it out if you SEEK ed who it was. If you listen to the original, its even more like it – it comes complete with 4+ part harmonies over the chorus and big ‘aaaah ahaha ahhhhh ahhhh’ parts over an extra bridge and longer intro. So this in itself isn’t unique.

What is unique, is that it is a very seekers-esque folk song about einstein-style relativity. Its about a bunch of volunteer who travel towards a planet for a year at near the speed of light, and when they get home it’s suddenly 100 years later. Its not one of the best known queen songs, but its one of my favourites.

I’ve used dad’s 12-string for the first time with one of these which has the added benefit that I can get seperate tracks for voice and guitar for the 12st has a pickup in it. All in all, I”m happy with how this turned out.

My fourth OneTakeWonder, Free Fallin’, written by Tom Petty, as played by John Mayer, as now covered by Lachlan Kingsford.

Not quite as happy as I have been with some of them, but I’m reasonably happy with it

This track was recorded at the request of my gratious webhost, Alex Hughes. Its one of my better recordings too I think.

I will follow you into the dark, originally by Death Cab for Cutie.

This is the second OneTakeWonder I recorded, and still probably the best of them. It is a fingerpicked and sung rendition of the old hymn ‘Amazing Grace’
