Todays upload is Evie (Parts 1, 2 & 3) by Stevie Wright. It is a rare song in describing an entire relationship from Meeting, to being in love, to the birth of their child coinciding with her death during childbirth. Also, rare that it features all of these and (the original particularly) rocks really hard. Stevie Wright was better known as the songwriter/frontman for the band ‘The Easybeats’.

Unfortunately, when he performed Evie a few years back he wasn’t able to sing all the versus and didn’t stand up throughout the performance. Sadly, he has pretty much fried his brain and body with drugs while he was popular. For this reason, it was recently performed by the supergroup ‘The Wrights’ (consisting of members from Living End, Jet, You am I, Spiderbait, Dallas Crane, Grinspoon and even the Easybeats) to raise money to help drug rehabilitation.

Both the original and the cover are really fantastic rocking songs. Have a listen to them if you haven’t already. Interesting trivia: Evie is (reportedly) the only 11 minute song to ever reach #1. I hope you enjoy it. My voice is now at least a little shot…

And for the second of the day is what is my favourite hymn of all time – How great thou art.

Many don’t know that Elvis recieved an Emmy for ‘Best Gospel Performance’ with the song. To me, it has one of the most uplifting chorus’s ever written. I think its a wonderful song, with a really poignant message, as well as being a fantastic hymn. It is one of the few songs that give me goosebumps when I hear the entire auditorium sing it at BPC.

I hope you enjoy it. I’m mostly happy with the recording, but I still might try it again due to a couple of little things on it.

Sorry I’ve taken so long to put down another one of these.

This is Still Alive from VaLVES Portal. I highly recommend, if you haven’t already, that you play through the game. After all – How many games have you played which finish in the main enemy singing you a song that basically says ‘Hey – no hard feelings you know?’

I hope you enjoy it. I’m mostly happy with the recording but may do it again later.

Hello,

We recently detected a few users were having trouble accessing some of the song database hosted here, on closer inspection we discovered that the issue was not isolated. The issue turned out to be plugin related and now has been repaired.

iTunes will be reconnected to the database tomorrow.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Good Afternoon!

I realise it has been a while since I posted one of these, and you have my apologies. Life can get in the way of these things. I’m hoping to post something bigger in the coming weeks so stay tuned.

Today, I have a jazz standard covered by many artists (including my personal favourite, Frank Sinatra) – Storm Weather. I hope you enjoy it

Good Afternoon All!

This is my recording of Louis Armstrong ‘What a wonderful world’. I was teaching it to a student the other night and realised that it might sound good – so I recorded it. The recording itself is just my guitar and myself. I didn’t try to emulate the piano in this recording and instead did a more ‘jazz chord guitar’ version. I hope you like it. As well – I highly recommend the version by the Ramones – as featured on [scrubs]. Its another fun interpretation of the same song.

Good evening all. My apologies for having spent so long between recordings. Hopefully it shan’t happen again. I have recorded a few songs in the last few weeks but I didn’t consider that they were quite at recording quality.

Tonight I have for you, my instrumental interpretation of John Lennon’s Imagine. In it, I’m playing my steel string acoustic. I’ve attempted to cover the melody, with as much of the piano part as possible. The bell-like sounds you’ll hear are harmonics – listen out for them in the third verse.

Enjoy.

This is my interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah. It was recorded with simply my voice and my guitar. My version incorporates some elements and ideas from a few other covers of the song as well as some stuff I through in there myself. I’m really pleased with this recording.

Once again, on a personal note, thank you to all of you who have joined my Facebook group. More then 70 members! Now – you can also follow this on Twitter if that is your want. The twitter address is at http://twitter.com/onetakewonders

This is my first Pink Floyd recording on here – ‘Wish you were here’ from the album sharing the same name. I did have to slightly cheat and make it a two-take-wonder because there is no physical way that I could play the radio guitar part and normal guitar parts at the same time and make them sound good. I did try…

This song is about Syd Barrett, who stopped performing (left isn’t exactly the right term) with Pink Floyd near the end of their really psychedelic era and before Pink Floyd become superstars with their concept albums. During the recording of Shine on you Crazy Diamond (on the same album, also largely about Syd), Syd visited the studio. He had shaved of all the hair on his body, and was largely overweight. The rest of the band didn’t recognise him immediately. It was to be the last time that any of Pink Floyd were to see him.

This is my tribute to the passing of one of the great TV shows: [Scrubs]. The song is called ‘Superman’ however is colloquially (and perhaps better) known as ‘I’m no Superman’ – and of course as the theme of Scrubs. The original recording was by Lazlo Bane. I hope you enjoy it.

On a personal note, thank you to so many of you for joining my Facebook Group. 61 Members! That is – 60 people who are not me! And for those of you so equipped, remember that you can get the podcast from http://1takewonder.co.cc/?feed=podcast or on my website at www.1takewonder.co.cc.
